I am actually in the process of actualizing my life long dream and travel through Europe for a year starting Feb 2013.

The dilemma I have is, can I trust apple maps for my travels. I will be doing the following countries

- Hungary
- Serbia
- Bulgaria
- Malta
- Turkey

Maybe do

- Greece
- Portugal
- Germany

What do you think i should do? I suspect maps would be an integral part of my travels.

The data costs could be enormous, for either google maps in iOS5 (or earlier) or Apple maps in iOS6. Although apple maps is more data efficient.

I would look at getting a app(s) that already have the maps preloaded rather than using streaming data maps like google or apple. In which case it has no bearing on whether you upgrade to iOS 6 or not.

I have researched getting prepaid sim cards with data allowance on them so that is not an issue. I am planning to do 4 weeks minimum in each country so the prepaid route will be cost effective.

I would say big NO ... although by then Google might release their own iOS Maps, until then I'm sure not upgrading.
