    Hi
I have a mid 2011 mac mini 2,3 i5 and 8 Gb ram. Runs on Mountain Lion. I use it as a host for my external harddrives were I have all my music and movies, they are Firewire 800. I use screen sharing and using my MacBook Pro Early 2011 as screen. They are connected with WIFI using airport Extreme. It has working very well, but the mini has beeing slow, not only with iTunes but also with browsing. After uppgrading to Mountain Lion the machine is like syrup, browsing take forever and iTunes is soooo slow. Was slow befor uppgrading but now it is useless.

My biggest problem is my iTunes library. It is huge. 1 TB with music and with movies it is total 1.4 TB.
So my question is should I upgrad to the new mac mini, and do i need the Quad core i7? Will it improve iTunes performens with SSD disk?
I know that this huge iTunes library will be a bit slow, but what is my best option?

Hmm... strange, even my 2009 MacBook Pro seems faster than your Mini. Don't understand why your Safari is so slow - maybe using something like iBoostUp from the App Store could help there - or a fresh install of OS X, of course.

As for iTunes, I'd say the hard drive with the library on it is too slow. Not so strange for 1 TB of data. The best solution for you would be a Thunderbolt drive, as you don't have USB 3.0. Maybe a WD My Book Duo Thunderbolt 4 or 6 TB, or a LaCie 2 Big Disk when you want faster.

Thanks for answere, i forgot to tell that i use crome as standard browser, safari is working faster. My geekbench score are 6500 and that seems normal. So maybee a thunderbolt disk will make it work. If i upgrade my mini, would it bee best with i5 or i7 for best performance of iTunes?

I can use my g4 for Itunes. Your Mini 2011 should be blazing.
