Should I upgrade the HD in my 1st Gen Time Capsule??

I have owned my 1st Gen Time Capsule since some time in 2008 and it has worked flawlessly from day one. Now it is backing up my iMac and my wife's MBP with no issues at all.

None of my Macs, for the time being, are 802.11ac, and there is so much interference on the 2ghz frequencies where I live that they are extremely unreliable - so I'm setup on 5ghz N only and have zero issues. I don't think I will benefit from the AC connectivity yet, at least until I have some new computers and even then my phones and ipad will be limited to N.

I am contemplating upgrading the 500gb HD in the Time Capsule to a 2tb as the drive is nearly full - and wanted to see if anyone thinks I am wasting my time, and if not, if they have any HD recommendations as a replacement?

    Thanks!

Me personally would go with a WD Red drive.
Then connect the old via USB-to-SATA adapter to Mac and transfer the history over to new disk.
