hi guys I was wondering if high Seirra is buggy... would it ruin the laptops performance? I apparently need it to be able to run Xcode and I wanted to start coding apps for fun. But I'm wondering if it's worth the risk.. I enjoy 14 hours of battery life light usage and I hear some people complain of battery issues and the laptop malfunctioning after the high seirra update. What are you opinions? Is there any significant benefit?

You might consider doing a "test install" of High Sierra on an EXTERNAL drive first.
See how it runs.

If it's a platter-based drive, be aware that it won't run as fast as it would from an internal SSD (of course). But it should still run, giving you a chance to see if it's compatible with all the software you have.

Or, "do it the other way around":
That is, use either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper (both free to download and use for 30 days) to create a bootable cloned backup copy of your Low Sierra install on the external drive.
Then, if HS doesn't work out for you it's a simple matter to:
1. Boot from the cloned backup
2. ERASE the internal drive back to Mac OS extended with journaling enabled
3. RE-clone the cloned backup BACK TO the internal drive, and you'll then be "right back where you started from".
