In the past, the new iPods have NEVER been included in the free promotion.

If you look at the paperwork for the rebate, it lists specific model numbers. The new iPods will have new model numbers, meaning you can only get the old models for free.

You'll be stuck with the old crap (and yes they WILL be crap given what the new iPod will show us) as these iPods will most likely be excluded from the promotion.

Still, it's free. Sell it on Ebay and put it towards a new model. :)

Yep, the new iPods will not fall under this promotion!
I remember going through a similar situation last year.

If you want a new iPod your best bet is to get the current model now and sell it on ebay (or elsewhere) before they announce the new ones (to get the most $$). Then take the money from the sale and use that to buy a new model after Sept 5.

Otherwise you'll be stuck with the "old crap".

True, except they are definitely excluded from the promotion. Even if Apple announced new iPods two weeks ago, they wouldn't count, since the part numbers and specific products were outlined in the promotion and Apple can't change the terms.

They could, in theory, hold a second promotion, but new iPods will sell themselves.
