Should MacBook Pro get hot when charging?

when I use my usb c hub to charge my MacBook both the hub and laptop get quite hot, is this normal?

it doesn't get anywhere near this hot under general everyday use

How hot is hot?

I believe it is natural that anything you charge up gets warm. Sometimes my phone gets warm as well.

My usb hub is rather warm - warmer then I'd prefer. My Mac is not hot though, I float around 55 to 60c while plugged in

I would liken it to putting your hand on a radiator its not so hot it would burn you but you can definitely feel the heat and the usb c hub gets really warm under use?

There's a bunch of apps.
Intel Power Gadget (it displays a window of number of metrics)
iStat Menus (that's the one I use)
Macs Fan Control which allows manual adjustment and/or rules of fan management, also displays the temps

The area around the battery will generate more heat when it is charging. Even my iPod Touch gets warm when I charge it.
