Should one download the MacBook Pro EPI firmware?

The details states that this will fix the 1.5Gbps issue. I'm not sure if its recommended to do this firmware update since it says not supported by Apple?

The firmware is supported. Why would Apple release unsupported firmware?

The use of unqualified, non-Apple branded drives is unsupported. Not that Apple is going to support the hardware you put into the notebook like RAM or hard drives to begin with.
