Should people ignore the 4 and just buy the 3GS?

...and wait for the iPhone 4G next summer, and allow Apple a year to perfect their device?

That's really a personal question.

If you like your 3Gs then yeah keep it for another year. There are advantages for holding off. There are also disadvantages so each person has to weigh the god and bad.

Personally, while I'm not an iPhone 4 owner (my wife is), I'd say there's enough good with the IP4 that I'd say its not worth it. I also believe apple will at some point in near future address the antenna and proximity issues.
 
this is how i see it.

if you have a 3g or lower, get the 4.
if you have a 3gs, wait a year.

upgrade every 2 years.
 
I suppose, as we've seen from people with no problems to those with problems (reception, dropped calls) that it depends on where the potential buyer lives. Ask others that own an iPhone 4 if they have any reception issues. If not, iP4. If so, iP3GS.
 
These threads rile me up.


The phone isn't so ****ed up that it's totally unusable.

It works perfectly fine. And wipes the floor with the previous 3GS & 3G.

Same for me. Even though it does not seem like it, the large majority of us are happy with our phones. The only "problem" I have had is the Death Grip making speed test slow down when I was trying to create the problem, I had to squeeze pretty hard and holding the phone naturally that way with my left hand did not cause any signal problems.
 
I hope so!! I'm holding my 3GS and waiting for the price to go up before I sell it. :D

I picked up my 4 from the apple Store last week and love it. No way I would go back to my 3GS. Awesome screen, much better battery life. Haven't been able to replicate grip of death, no proximity issues.
 
The iPhone 4 is obviously superior to any previous iPhone. It does more, the radio has better reception, etc. If someone doesn't want to buy an iPhone 4 because of the antenna problem, they probably shouldn't buy Apple at all because the antenna isn't the problem, it's a symptom. The problem is Apple and it's inferior corporate culture. Buying a 3GS instead of a 4 won't change that.
 
My iPhone 4 works just fine for me. Only issue I have is the antenna issue but I haven't dropped any calls yet. I not saying I'm 100% happy with iPhone 4 but it hasn't given me any major issues for me to not use it and I would go with 4 instead of 3GS. But that's just me. :)
 
I think you could be happy if you stayed with your 3gs, but I don't see anyway anybody could use the iPhone 4 and then go back to the 3gs. It can't even compare hardware wise. The only way I'd understand is if the antenna issue really does cause a huge difference wherever the person lives. For me, it doesn't.

Would I ever advise anyone to buy a new 3gs and sign a 2 year contract now? Of course not. Buy an iPhone 4, sell it on ebay and then buy a used 3gs on ebay and make a few hundred dollars and also get higher storage capacity.
