This intrested me although I just want the iPhone out of the way!

On the iPhone question and answer page i spotted this very unusual terminology for Apple products.

Can I use the SIM card from my current mobile phone?
You should use the SIM card that came preinstalled in the iPhone.

    Should? Should! Not
"Only the all mighty AT&T sim card will work"
    or
    "No, just No. OK?"
    or even
    "Not yet"

Should surely implies that it is possible to use another Sim card.

i think this is referring to current at&t customers using their current sim card. not other carriers sim cards. this will absolutely not work.

I think they are just suggesting that for the easiest and most streamlined setup, you just leave the iPhone as it is from the box to ensure that your setup goes well. Because if you put in your old SIM card before activation, it may not activate properly.

And maybe the iPhone SIM card (while still being compatible with other AT&T phones) has something on it that is required for activation.
