I have a 4th Gen that was released in 2015 and in 2017 the 4K was released. Should we expect a new Apple TV this year?

OTHER THAN HDMI 2.1 there's very little that the Apple TV needs.

HOWEVER... With the launch of Apple's gaming subscription, there is a huge argument that we'll see the A12Bionic chip put in it. No interest for me as i've never played a video game in my life!

What would you like adding to Apple TV? I guess for me, iTunes offering all of their catalogue in Dolby True HD would be very now! That's my only criticism of iTunes - the volume is so low on their films! If i'm watching on my Mac, you have to have the volume on max to get a hold decent level. It's strange as Apple likes to think that it's the best with everything and yet, it's seriously bad in this area!

While i'm a videogamer at heart, I have tried and have no interest in gaming on the ATV. What I would like though is more speed as my 4th Gen is getting a little slow pulling up an app. I'm also been for sometime having a delay on my remote where I need to wait a full second before the 2nd click registers. Not a big deal really but kind of annoying. I don't have that delay using the TV remote app on my iPad so it's probably a software thing.

I would also like to see a redesign or a different type of a remote. The swiping on the small touchpad and click on everything has gotten old. But if I had to choose my main reason, more speed and possibly a little more ram because my 4th Gen only has 2GB of memory.

To be honest, i don‘t know, but as speculation is fun... here is my shot at it.
The A12 would be a step down in GPU Power from A10X of the current :apple:TV 4K.
A new Apple TV with A12X would be nice for :apple:Arcade, and the Neural Engine could help with machine learning for Siri. So i think there are valid reasons for Apple to release a new Apple TV. Maybe wait until Apple Arcade is live?

I don‘t think Apple want‘s to match Xbox or PlayStation with Apple Arcade. But i could imagine trying out „Beyond a Steel Sky“ myself.

I don't foresee Apple updating the ATV this year at least. I'm not sure what they could update to be quite honest. I guess they could update the GPU, but since we only use the ATV as a streaming device, not gaming device, the 4K model will last us for quite some time.

Seen the direction Apple is taking I don't believe we'll see a new ATV in 2020 either. Even 720p is good enough for Tim Cook to make a little Oprah's sanctuary. Just put some candles around the TV and a carpet in front, and worship! o_O

In my opinion, the gaming service with the Apple TV will be no match against an Xbox or PS.

I didn't see any of the big guys on the list of developers (Take Two/Rockstar, Square-Enix, Ubisoft, EA, etc., etc.). Just a couple of old glories like Sega e Konami. And well, ok, they have got the creator of Final Fantasy. But it's a bit too little, a bit too late...
