Honest question, why are teachers held accountable to parents? What are administrators afraid of? Parents suing because they got an F?

Good question. Probably a handful of reasons at varying degrees.

Administrators want to keep their jobs.

Parents are kind of like a customer, and the customer is always right.

Administrators can't just ignore parents, but they certainly can easily fire teachers to resolve a problem (if not tenured).

It's tough to disagree with a parent when they are arguing about what is right for their child.

It is certainly easier to take the side of a parent than the side of an non tenured teachers, lot less paperwork and bureaucracy.

I don't think its quite a matter of being sued.
I'm sure there are many more. These I just pulled out of my :apple:ss

Again, you're not really making the distinctions you need to in order to see my point. Machines do pump out books, movies, etc. but they're not "created" in the sense that we feed an English dictionary into a computer, it randomly selects a few thousand words, and out pops Macbeth. And besides the example of metal artwork (which would fall under "art" in the first place) and custom handmade cars/motorcycles/whatever, I wouldn't call any of those things "unique."
And cars aren't "created" on the factory floor in the sense that we dump a bunch of raw material onto a conveyer belt in front of some welding robots and out pops a finished vehicle. I'd say the technical proficiency it takes to use welding as part of one's art is higher than the technical proficiency it takes to wield a paint brush or pencil, and both paintings and drawings are easily replicated by computers, yet welding is getting the 'so easy a caveman can do it' treatment. Which is kinda funny now that I write that since prehistoric paintings and drawings do exist but to the best of my knowledge prehistoric welding does not.

And how is anything that's one of a kind (be it a motorcycle or a painting) not the very definition of unique?

I work at a school, one that is attended by a large number of low-income students.

There is such an enormous amount of red tape that goes into being a teacher that I would never dream of being one, now that I know what goes on. I've seen two and a half school years ago by, and now I know that I'd never make it, nor would I want to try. Actual teaching is one of of the last things that a teacher gets to think about.

There are state guidelines to meet, federal guidelines to meet (however reasonable or unreasonable they may be), parents to placate, fellow teachers to placate, administrators to placate, their own continuing education, their personal lives, difficult students, bright students, average students, etc. etc. There's copying to be done, lessons to be made, and on and on.

At my school, many of the teachers we lost due to budget cuts were very good ones. Many of the lousy ones get to stay on. It is nearly impossible to get rid of a bad teacher once they've been around a certain amount of time, short of something criminal that they do. But, young or inexperienced teachers (which covers older but still-new teachers) are usually the first to go when budget cuts happen or some other outside force causes change, even if they are great at what they do.

At my school their is a young female teacher. She has started teaching about 3 years ago and teachers:

Art
Mechanics
Welding
Auto Body

And possibly more.

Don't you think a teacher of that talent should get paid more then a teacher that just teachers say Biology?

No.

The basics should be where we concentrate our education dollars. I am fully behind testing teachers to ensure we get the most bang for the buck

Two good friends of mine teacher at high schools near me

Both intelligent women.

After 3 years, neither is happy with what they are doing

Some of the stories from them about the parents are things I wouldn't even dream of thinking about. Whether it is stalking, calling at night constantly, following to car, screaming, etc....

No, thanks
