Shouldn't the iPad mini event invites from Apple have gone out today? (Oct 10th)

I think the key word here is "rumor". I guess the insiders can't be spot on every time. i'm not an expert or anything but i feel that it will be released in time for the holiday season without a doubt.
You're about as much an expert as everyone else. Most everyone is doing a combination of analyzing past history and educated guesses.
OP, if someone like Walt Mossberg talked about an upcoming ipad mini event, that'd be one thing. Otherwise, it's pure speculation on their parts.

Could be they saw the invitation and launch event dates leaked and decided to change them just to confuse the rumour mill in order to render the whole rumour industry a bit less accurate.
Yesterday Tim said, "Siri, send the invite out."

Theres always the possibility Apple changed its mind last minute. With the iPhone being in such high demand, new quality control issues slowing production, the negativity towards maps and the whole "scuffgate" stuff then maybe releasing a black aluminum iPad Mini would just give them more problems than they need right now so they'll just coincide the release for March along with the iPad 4
Personally, Im dying to know if the Mini or iPad 3 MarkII are for real or not because I've outgrown my 16GB iPad 2 and already have a buyer lined up so I can get ANYTHING in 32GB.

Do you have an iPad mini? Has Apple announced it? The FACT of the matter is, at this point the iPad mini is a rumor. Now you can scream and shout all day how wrong you think I am, but facts are facts.

Yawn. I'm so sorry. I deal in facts. I am quite frequently wrong, when I give an opinion. If I was saying "i don't think Apple will ever release an iPad of any other size" - I would most likely be wrong. When I say that today, the iPad mini is a rumor- that my friend is the gospel truth. Look up fact, then look up opinion. Good luck.
