The only reason I'm asking this is beacuse while looking at the specs I noticed 2 things that stood out to me.

1. HDMI 1.4 - Shouldn't this be capable of outputting 4K? (Not sure if only @ 30fps or both 30 & 60fps)

2. A8 Chip - Hasn't it been confirmed to be able to play 4K video files?

Could Apple be waiting for their long rumored streaming service before they update everything on iTunes (video wise) to 4K?

Will Vegeta finally step up and kill Goku to become the main character? (Find out on the next episode of DRAGONBALL Z!!!!) lmao

But seriously, what do you guys think about this? Is it possible for the for the new apple tv to have a software update to output 4K based on the two things I mentioned at the beginning?

HDMI1.4 only outputs 4K@30Hz, but a lot of material will be 60Hz. Hence, this model will only ever be 1080p...

Rest assured that Apple won't miss the opportunity to upsell you to a new model next year or the year after...

lol, one could hope they'd be humble for a change. That makes sense.

Okay answer me this then.

If most 4K content is actually 60fps, then why is Amazon promoting false advertising?

Under Tech Specs, and Output Resolution Supported it says only 4K @30fps.

So is Roku (big player streaming box) really the only one that has true 4K rn or am I missing something?

4K is a resolution, 30/60 fps is a framerate. The Amazon Fire TV can run 4K at 30 fps, the Roku 4 can run 4K at both framerates. Regardless of the framerate, the resolution is 4K. HDMI 2.0 is required for 4K at 60 fps and also for HDR, high dynamic range, which is a feature in the UHD spec that is an additional feature beyond just the resolution.

Apple would never think to underspec a product at launch! Everything they make is state of the art! They're never a generation behind everything and everyone!

They will make a 4K ready ATV when the technology has had a good long time to mature and be up to Apple's stringent quality requirements!

Apple. Last year's tech at next year's prices. It just works.

Your topic and post, you ask about the New Apple TV, but the where you vote, you ask about tvOS, so dunno what to vote.. :S
I don't think the new AppleTV will get 4K, but I think Apple will update tvOS to 4k, when a new new AppleTV comes.. :)
