I repurposed a time machine HDD for carbon copy cloner, set it up for scheduled backups, and got it going in about 10 minutes. It allows you to schedule backups and is very easy to configure. Love it, love it, love it. No wonder people have been singing its praises.
It's one of the best apps ever made. The dev is highly responsive as well! Use it daily.

I’ve used CCC for many years - I am sure it was from positive feedback from MacRumors users. No regrets at all and well worth the fair price. It seems to be regularly updated when necessary and backs up very efficiently.

I've been using CCC for more than a decade (can't ever remember what OS X version by year haha) and continue recommending it to any/everyone.

Had to do a Time Machine restore (reinstalled original version of macOS (including available updates) via Option-Shift-Command-R) for one of my kids recently. It worked however, remains a lot slower than doing a CCC restore.
