Hi everyone, I wanted to share a project I’ve been developing on my own: Falken Writer.

It’s a text editor for iPad and Mac designed for anyone who wants a completely distraction-free environment but is tired of the usual minimalist interfaces and prefers a tactical, retro analog identity.

The app is fully functional with the default visual profile (phosphor green on black). The only In-App Purchase is purely cosmetic, just to unlock alternative retro visual styles.

I built it natively with SwiftUI. Since I develop on a base M2 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM, keeping the app lightweight, fast, and respectful of system resources was one of my main priorities.

Some of the core features implemented so far:

• Dual Workflow: Full support for both plain text (Markdown, TXT, LOG, CSV) and rich text (RTF, HTML) with quick styles and indentation.
• Document Management: Integrated library with iCloud Drive sync, version history, tags, and search. It also opens external files directly from Files/Finder.
• Focus Elements: Terminal-style panels, document telemetry, and configurable autosave.
• Export: Direct export to PDF.
As an indie developer, I don't have a big team behind me. I use the spare pockets of time I get each week to jump into the code, fix bugs, and think through new features to implement. Because of this, feedback from a community like MacRumors is incredibly valuable to me. I’d love to know what you think about the interface, how the text engine feels on your devices, or if there’s any specific feature you feel is missing.

Thanks for your time!
