i have downloaded a few apps in the last couple of days is there anyway
i can resize my grid to show these apps without having to use show finder?

I guess you're talking about stacks. The answer is no. 🙁

What I've done is grouped various apps into folders (games, utilities etc) which has made it easier to find what I want.

You'll have to wait till 10.5.2 when you'll be able to use list view in stacks, or use spotlight (it's really easy. hit CMD + SPACE and start typing the name of the app you want to launch)
