My new Series 1 Space Grey 42mm :)
Decided to upgrade as my Series 0 is just too slow, I'm very happy with my new purchase :apple:

Just ordered a Series 0 Space Gray 42mm open-box from Best Buy for $200 (the one that's on sale was out of stock).
Also got a Penom Milanese Loop-style band.

This is my first ever Apple Watch! And I'm super exited to start using it next week.

In the meantime, does anyone have any tips or tricks on using Apple Watch or getting familiar with watchOS? I've never used a watchOS device before, so I know nothing.

Your best bet would probably be to watch some reviews on YouTube. There's not a whole lot to learn so a few videos should give you a pretty good idea on how it works.

Would it be a good idea to head down to Apple or Best Buy and play around with watchOS?

I'm hard of hearing (functionally deaf without my hearing aid) and I've never had a problem with the watch. I keep it in silent mode so it won't bother others, and the haptics are strong enough to always be noticeable.

Previously, it was far easier to use Siri to compose a message, but Scribble has replaced that for me. I'm hoping thirdparty messaging clients adopt it soon.

That does look really good. Wish they made leather loops for the 38mm watch. I got a third-party band, but I suspect the Apple ones are likely softer. I'll try one on in a store at some point.

Just got Apple Watch Sport "42 Space Grey Aluminum. At first I thought it was not worth for deaf people because it needs to use Siri until I tried it..I like it.

I'm not sure how much they've fooled with the accessibility options on the watch, seems like the haptic feedback would have a lot of potential for deaf people. Probably easier to feel vibrate than your phone most of the time.

I'm sure a LOT of people, myself included do not use Siri on the watch (or on the phone for that matter).

There aren't really a lot of 'accessibility' features on it to worry about. A silent watch is probably going to be desirable for a great deal of people, and I was actually surprised to find that the watch, out of the box, does beep; that might well be intrusive for a lot of people. There is, however, the ability to set the haptic strength and the ability to have a strong 'Hey!' haptic to get your attention at times (I'm not sure when that triggers, as I don't use it).

The phone has the ability to use a different haptic pattern for different contact list entries and the new voice mail transcription feature (for US English Siri voices, anyway; I'm hoping more languages add this soon) is wonderful for those who can't hear.

I think the biggest thing that can be done to help hard of hearing/deaf people is to reduce the dependency on spoken orders to Siri where possible, such as the addition of Scribble for dashing off quick messages. I have a mostly-normal voice due to years of therapy, but not all HoH/deaf people do and some may not be able to make themselves understood.

So, I went to the local Apple Premium Reseller and 'upgraded' my Apple Watch Sport to a stainless steel Apple Watch with Black Sport Band (although I immediately replaced it with my brown leather band with classic buckle), as it was on sale. Unfortunately not the Series 2, but it's not like I was that excited about the new features. Improved performance would be good for future-proofing, but watchOS 3 already made the older ones much faster. And I wouldn't want to swim with a SS watch anyway, so the 'swimproofing' isn't interesting enough to me. And GPS... well, I'm not such an active guy and always carry around my iPhone with me anyway.

Anyway, time for photos (last one shows the brown leather band I bought for my AWS originally)!

I think it looks absolutely gorgeous! Never been a huge fashion addict, but the Apple Watch has really changed my mind about the need for a good-looking watch. :D Not that I hated the looks of the Apple Watch Sport, but when I compare the two side-by-side... damn, the Sport model looks like some kind of toy now. xD

Ditto (bone anchored hearing aid) and I really appreciate the Watch. I now feel alerts I previously couldn't hear (even with my hearing aid I would often miss calls and texts). I hope one day there is an Apple Watch app to allow me to remotely adjust the settings of my aid. The newest aids all have Bluetooth and many have iPhone apps (Apple created an API for them), so it's inevitable.

I have the Starkey Halo which does all that; I love it. There is a control app for it called Trulink. I can even listen to music or Netflix audio with it. I hadn't used my phone's headphone jack in years so I don't miss it on this 7.

The one thing I don't like is that if I answer a call on the watch I can't have the sound routed to a Bluetooth headset, which is how the phone function sees the aid.

That's an iOS problem, though. Lots of people want the same thing with regular headsets.

What a coincidence, I've got a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid as well! Did not know there are actually BAHA users at Macrumors, haha. I currently got the BAHA 4 and BAHA 3 Power. :p

You know, the BAHA 5 actually is Made for iPhone. Not what you're looking for maybe, but it does allow for music playback to your hearing aid without the need for a special accessory. Also allows for calls to be routed to your BAHA etc. I'd love to have that device, but still got a few years to go until my first upgrade.

By the way, I love my Apple Watch as well. I always turn off the sounds of my iPhone and Watch, since the Haptic feedback is strong enough to alert me when a notification pops up.

Looks awesome.

I too have the SS (Series 2) Upgraded from space gray aluminum (series 0). Absolutely love it. The stainless steel version looks pretty damn sharp. Good thing is, IMO the most versatile in terms of watch bands. Everything goes well with it.

My daily driver is either the black or midnight blue silicone band (amazon version, both $8 shipped). Very happy with these as they are just as good as the apple versions.

Is your brown leather band with classic buckle an original Apple version?

I am wondering because in Germany you can buy a Leather smokey grey
Origninally the Leather Loop came in:
  • Black
  • Stone
  • Light Brown
  • Bright Blue
Then Stone, Light Brown, and Bright Blue were discontinued and replaced with White and Midnight Blue, and Storm Grey was added.

Then White and Storm Grey were discontinued last month, and Smoke Grey was added.

So now there is just Midnight Blue and Smoke Grey. :)

It is! Was pretty expensive, but it still looks damn good. Especially now that the 'strap connector' thingy actually matches. Not that the stainless steel on the aluminum bothered me, but it just feels right the way it is now. And indeed like you are saying: it's the most versatile in terms of watch bands. I'm planning on getting myself the black leather band with classic buckle, but I will try and do at least some time with my current one as it looks so classy already.

Sidewards upgrade for me, went from a series 0 space grey sport to a series 0 SS with black classic buckle band, must say it was a good move at only £200, plus sold my SG sport for £150 so not at all bad! It rocks with my midnight blue sport strap too! I definitely want an ocean blue one
