38mm series 2 silver aluminium with black nylon band (I have a small wrist - 155mm - but the size of the watch is exaggerated by the wide angle lens of the iPhone I used to take the shot and when you look at it in real life it is far from covering the full width of my wrist).

Happy enough about the looks and great comfort for someone who hasn't been wearing a watch since the early 2000s (I specifically picked that combo for this reason: very light, I can barely feel it, and the band is thin enough for the watch to fit inside my fairly tight shirt cuffs if I want it to)

Cant decide, Series 1 for the great cheap prices right now or Series 2 with the brighter screen and "future proofing"!!!!!!!

I do know coming here is agonizing the decision looking at all these nice looking watches and cool bands. :)

Depending on what you mean by future proofing, series 2 might make no difference as it is similar to series 1 performance wise and unlikely to to become slower than the high-end model with future OS updates.

Deciding factors are pretty much all instant:
- Series 2 is is a must have if you plan on exercising outdoors without your phone and want location tracking (GPS)
- Very nice to have with series 2: longer battery life (when you don't use GPS)
- Nice to have with series 2: brighter screen for outdoor use
- Fairly nice to have with series 2: stronger ceramic back (both on the aluminium and steel model, whereas series 1 don't have that at all)

While on the other hand:
- Very nice about series 1: cheaper
- Small advantage with series 1: slightly thinner and lighter

For me it basically comes down to is the screen really that much brighter? All the other factors are not worth the upgrade to the Series 2 if you will in my personal scenario. The bright screen though would be a deciding factor.

I am assuming I can compare the 2 at an Apple Store for difference

In the world of electronics and now the newer world of wearables, there is no such thing as 'future proof" better term might be 1 maybe 2 generation proof.

I find listening to music on my Apple Watch very useful as I often don't take my phone with me when I go out.

I wouldn't have chosen this particular nylon band, but it was the only one available for the AW2 42mm in the store where I bought it.
