In the flesh it doesn’t look like plastic and certainly doesn’t feel like it. It’s a very modern sporty look. One which I’m still to decide on by the end of the week when the 14 day return is up. The Ti is defnelty a lovely finish but with the cons that the surface will get marks.
I agree it doesn’t look like plastic when you are close enough to it. I had a good look and feel of it in the Apple store a couple of weeks back. I personally don’t really like white watches though, but that’s my personal preference. I have a very different view to smart watches than I do towards traditional watches. They are short lived gadgets and I think Apple massively overpriced these devices in terms of the casing materials they use.

True, smartwatches will never have the lifespan of a good mechanical watch, but with the minute improvement (edit: no pun intended) the S5 Brough over the S4 I can't help thinking maybe we reached a point where AW got so good we could consider keeping them 5-7 years.

One of the reason I returned my ceramic and went back to SBSS however still stems from the longevity paradox you highlighted. I don't see the point in spending twice the price when the main feature of ceramic AW is durability and I damn well know I'll be upgrading in a few years.

You could also extend this argument to SS vs. Al, but the reason I'm willing to pay that premium for steel is purely aesthetic and personal preference. And I think most people who choose ceramic over SS or Ti think the same way on another pricing scale.

I can’t argue with the aesthetics side of things. I like the aluminium for its matt finish and lightness but I also like the polished stainless. I was tempted to get a secondhand SS S4 off eBay this year due to very little advancement and the fact they can be picked up in nearly new condition for around £300-350. I may do that next time as I have no interest in the initial premium. I will enjoy my Al S5 for at least 3 years though I think. Looking forward to posting a pic or two when it arrives.

I'm still using my series 0 after 4.5 years, and it's holding up extremely well, appearance-wise. The crystal is spotless and SS case polishes up like new. No Apple Watch since has yet been able to convince me to upgrade, but S5 is getting damn close. The lack of OS updates for the S0 may push me over the edge sooner or later...

I guess ill post a pic,

totally agree with your point on aesthetic preference. For me it was very clearly ceramic over other case materials.. Coming from every non-gold model since series 0, I console myself that at least I won’t have the ugh feeling over visible scratches (from my anal aesthetic personality) by getting this model and I’m having fun playing with colours.

the good thing I can think of for your minute improvement point is that it might make us feel more better if our upgrade cycle extends (I.e. 24 months life cycle for ceramic can be like buying 2 SS watches over 2 years). Lol.... so... not so bad for wallet....? Haha..

I really wish those ceramic and titanium editions were available as non cellular models.
I dont get comments like these.
Cellular is like an added bonus when you buy those tiers of Apple Watch.
I don’t think it would make much of a difference (price wise) if Apple took out cellular from an SS, ceramic or even the titanium.

It's not a question of functionality or price. Cellular Apple Watch are not offered by every mobile carrier and/or in every country.

That's the case in the country I'm living in right now, only one carrier is offering cellular data for Apple Watch and unfortunately the Edition models are not available for purchase on both the Apple website or the mobile carrier website.

I dunno if it's because of Apple or of the carrier's decision, but in either case, just because Apple made it so that the Edition models are cellular only, many people in the world just can't buy it even if they have the money to do so. If those Edition models were available as non-cellular as well it would allow more people to get it.

I just upgraded from S0 to S5 after 4.5 years with my aluminum S0. The case is a bit scratched after hard daily use, but nobody ever noticed. My wife has it now and is happy. A new strap cleaned it right up.

The black SS is definitely the nicest looking of the three in my opinion. The screen merges nicely into the casing. Not fussed on the look of the ceramic and the surface finish of the titanium seems too easy to scruff from what I’ve seen on here and elsewhere.

My Apple Watch Edition GPS + Cellular, 44mm Space Black Titanium Case with (PRODUCT)RED Sport Band. Coming from the zero edition, this is quite the jump! I love it! The colours are amazing and the new faces are soooo good. Worth every penny!

Looks sharp
I’ve got a SG Aluminium Nike and a product red sport band on the way. Nice to see a similar colour contrast.
