I transplanted the SSD from my broken MBP 07 Santa Rosa into the MBP 09 17 Inch, and also have
installed 10.6 back onto the SSD. I am planning to install 10.5 onto it and make 10.11 for compatibility,
even though it's terrible, it might run better on the SSD. Not looking to add 10.14 onto it, since I have
like two machines already with the Mojave. And Catalina, I'm not going there, never enjoyed it much.

Is my 2012 applicable to this thread? Recently threw this machine together, bought the 9,1 two weeks ago. Core i7 2.6, 8GB, GT650M 1GB(seeked that out as I knew it would always bother me if I got the 512mb version).
Then the upgrades began, upgraded to 16gb TeamGroup ram for $18, had a PNY 240gb SSD which is used for Windows 10 then a 4TB Samsung Evo 870 which is for MacOS Monterey, Mojave and Lion (wanted to cover the spectrum for app support).
Picked up a 2011 HR-AG screen for $50-60? Probably could’ve went cheaper but I was trying to get a good condition one. The rest of this body is in great condition so I wanted to keep it that way.
Last upgrade I want is an AC wifi card but it seems like my only option is a UK seller? If anyone happens to know where I could find a kit in the US, be happy to do that. Other than that, machine is a beast and I’m amazed at how it operates 11 years later. I also have Cinema Displays which I occasionally plug it into. Ignore the windows PC, I’m looking to get a Mac Pro chassis and throw it inside that.

It’s a unibody, not a retina (and an anti-glare option added in to boot). It belongs here. 🙂
That’s maybe the only Ivy Bridge Mac I actually dream of one day owning — well, aside from an Ivy Bridge-added CPU to an otherwise-ailing 17-inch late 2011 MBP, which dosdude1 accomplished not long ago. It, too, would need an anti-glare option for it to be one my want list.

Nope, you never do. Maybe one day they’ll uncover a 17-inch Core Duo iMac without an iSight camera.

It would be oh-so-insanely cool if we could order customised LCDs. Just specify size, resolution, type and connector and it’s dropped off at your door like an Amazon package.

I think if the time ever comes I’m just gonna retrofit another display inside my 27in Cinema’s. Can’t stand the plastic junk they sell now.
Maybe a 5K 27” iMac panel will fit inside it…

I just can’t justify $1000+ for a monitor personally. Let alone two of them. That and the style is 2010-2012 Apple that I’m going for.

That would be especially helpful for me since I need real volume quantities of 12.1" 1920x1440, 14.1" 2160x1620, 15" 2432x1620, and 17" 2880x1920 for... a Thing™. I think that's the kind of thing you'd need to order in batches of 10,000... who knows, maybe in the year 2037, if man is still alive; if iBook can survive they may find home manufacture of simple LCDs to be possible. I mean, it's starting to come around with PCBs, so who knows.
Those antiglare displays look (from a distance, I've never seen one in person) amazing. I wish they had those options still on the new ones, I'd absolutely go for the antiglare.

Had Apple offered anti-glare retina displays, some of the MBPs would have escaped Staingate.

They look even better even person.
They're not quite the same as the bezel on the old MacBook Airs, the MBP one looks more silver than white from some angles. Still lighter than the chassis though.

It’s funny you mention that, a little bit unrelated but I figured my 2015 Air non-retina display would blow the 2012 HR-AG out of the water. Boy was I wrong
They really did the 2015 dirty with that panel…
As for the bezels, I thought they’d make the Pro feel cheap but I genuinely like them now. Unique as well.
I've added at least 1 actual early Intel Mac to this thread...but is a late 2013 13" rMBP included in this demographic? I scored this 13" for $180 and it turned out to not only have only 33 charge cycles (likely a replacement battery) but also came with 2 chargers, which I did already have a spare MagSafe 2 lying around, so now it has 3. 🙂 Specs are 2.8GHz i7, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
I was actually just going to flip it. But something about the "vintage" feel + decently usable operation has me selling my 13" M1. Mostly because I now have an ASUS ROG G14 that I love, making the M1 overkill for light browsing and content consumption. The 13" will be a secondary computer for random things at home or for when I travel but don't plan to game. The added storage space over my M1 is a nice perk too, as is the backlit logo.

This is just my take, but I have a hard time classifying anything with a Retina display as “early”, especially if it runs a still-supported version of macOS. 🙂

Retina, Catalina-native-capable Macs are “Late Intel Macs” in my book, so nope.
That said, pre-Retina Macs which can run Catalina, out-of-box, are a kind of odd grey area. My late 2013 Haswell iMac 21.5-inch model comes to mind here, as it only has 1920x1080p display, Thunderbolt 1, and an OEM spinner inside…
