Is it possible to have an Icon in the top Menu Bar which displays the sound output device? So that I can switch between my Headphones and Line Out faster, without going through System Prefs?

On my PB, option-F3 (or F4 or F5the sound keys) will bring up the audio pane of the system preferences.
alternatively, couldn't you leave it open, hide it when you don't need it, and alt-tab to it when you do?
