Is there a way that I can set OSX to automatically give me decent sized previews of picture files as their icon without having to make all other icons, like folders or apps bigger too?

I want to be able to distinguish between DSC07485.jpg and DSC0575634.jpg, etc. without having big clunky icons for things like applications.

Thanks

Assuming you already have a preview icon for the file, you can set the icon view for individual folders, without affecting the rest of the finder. With the folder you're interested in open, use "Show View Options..." from the Finder->View menu or contextual menu (right-click, ctrl-click). You will see an option to apply the view either for "This window only" or "All windows"
