For me, the calculation worked out as follows

1) Cable + Sports Pkg(Soccer/Cricket) + HBO + DVR + Broadband 35 mbps with Brighthouse = $175
2) Removed Cable subscription and retained lesser Broadband(15mbps) = $58 (-$117)
3) Netflix (+$8) - Already have it
4) Amazon Prime (+$9) - Already have it
5) Thinking of adding HBO and Showtime(15 + 11 = +$26)
6) Use antenna for local channels

That still saves me $75 or so. Not bad. Could be used towards Pay Per View for Sports.
Everybody's Use case is different. This works for me

Yes, you saved some money. Not many will. They will most likely go with 100Mb speeds because they are saving on cable tv which shifts their spending and not actually save.

But the idea is (or my plan anyway) would be to not buy everything out there. I use Hulu $8, Netflix $8.23 and my 20 meg streaming is $43. So I am looking at $59. Also have an antenna on the roof for the OTA local stuff.

The point is I do not want all the other stuff, so for me it works, for someone who wants a lot of channels then it does not work.

Yeah, everyone's use case is different. But like I said before, some will end up paying more or having to deal with multiple companies instead of one.

75% of the titles on Netflix are crap that no one actually watches. Quantity doesn't equal quality. HBO/Showtime actually have new movies which Netflix doesn't.

Define crap. I can think of a lot of excellent movies that most people don't watch.

So, no matter how many post facts, you are sticking with your opinion that we are stupid? K.

It's not really dealing with multiple companies if you bill each through iTunes. You can easily turn channels on/off at will without having to deal directly with any provider's own customer service. Plus it's easy to buy iTunes credit for 20% off, so the costs drop further. I'd be happy to have Apple be my new cable company.....they are edging closer and closer. Once they get a "basic" cable package, I'm set!

If you have Time Warner, there's a good chance you already have Showtime for free. In April they gave pretty much every subscriber to TW Showtime and TMC for free for a year. I've been using the Showtime app on Apple TV for awhile. But outside of a few good shows, Showtime is pretty much garbage. 12 dollars a month is definitely not worth it imo. HBO at least gets new movies consistently and has some great TV shows to justify it's price.

Surprised at the price. Hulu is advertising just an extra $8.99/mo to add it to your Hulu account which would be the cheaper alternative if you already have Hulu and would also like Showtime.

And the only reason why I don't do this is because of the Scientology crap on Hulu. Also, through iTunes I can use the gift cards, instead of having a CC on file. I am curious though, if going through iTunes precludes me from watching it on a chromecast......

I don't know where you live, but here we get HBO, Showtime and 8 other movie/specialty channels for 19.99 a month as an add on package.

People keep saying, "I don't know where you live but here...". Where is here? I live in TN and I've lived in MD. I've had Charter, Comcast, and currently I have DirecTV. Never have I gotten all the movie channels for $20/mo. The best I've gotten them for is free for 3 months, only to be charged about $40/mo after the promotional period. And that only includes what's currently available on demand. These other services, which I've tried out with the free trials, have what's currently on-demand, plus every episode of every series ever. And Showtime also has live streaming for Showtime East/West. The video quality on mobile is quite good, too. Oh, and uh, I don't know about others, but I can't tell you how many times I've gone to watch a movie with DirecTV and gotten the dreaded 771 error message (no signal), even on a day when the weather conditions are perfect. It's like, what the heck am I paying for? This would never happen with these Internet-based services, unless of course your Internet goes out, which mine rarely does.

what Scientology crap on Hulu? We have been using our free month since we bought a new TV and have not see any of that.

It's a shame CBS / Showtime releases this brand new app without it being optimized for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Even their official CBS app isn't optimized for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus :(

I love that these options are surfacing for cord cutters but this isn't a terribly enticing subscription. I already have Amazon and Netflix and they have some of Showtime's (and HBO's) shows already. After Game of Thrones was over I cancelled HBO Now. I'll probably sub for Homeland but after that...meh. I wonder if HBO and Showtime will pull their content from Netflix and Amazon or if they can't yet (contracts).

What are you talking about. I never said everyone will pay more. I'm just saying there will be people that still do. the only one stupid is you for that comment.

Sony PlayStation Plus members can also subscribe to Showtime via the PlayStation Vue app for $8.99. Otherwise it is $10.99.

I originally signed up via iTunes Store but canceled that free trial a day later when I found that the iPhone Showtime app would not allow HDMI mirroring to my TV.

I am pleased with the great picture quality I am getting from the PlayStation Vue app.
