SHSH blobs are like an "key" to allow the firmware to be installed. If you don't have a backup it wont install. Tiny umbrella asks itunes servers for it then sends it to saurik's server and makes an local backup. and they constantly queue you in their list to keep one for every firmware that comes out. Odds are it has 4.3 installed but you can only get 4.3.1 blobs. Do it anyways, and do not update your firmware through iTunes. (You may not be able to jailbreak if you do). Btw Google is your friend...

What I hate is that many well regarded jailbreak sites do not mention this issue. iClarified mentions nothing about it in many of their tutorials I just read, making you think you can jb and easily put a fresh install of, say 4.2.1 on your ipod Touch, (current Itunes only 'signs' installs the newer 4.3.1 on). These sites don't mention, you need to have saved the 4.2.1 blobs from your device before 4.3 came out to be able to reload 4.2.1 again and jb it on your Touch. not one word about it.
It;s complicated, for newbies, but they don't tell you this. It's very misleading.

Most "jailbreak" sites out there just grab there news feed directly from twitter. It's easy to spot an decent site. Macrumors, Redmondpie and official Twitter links (the hackers themselves) are some of the only sites I would trust to an point.

I have always covered all the avenues. Most sites out there publishing tutorials don't even own an iphone (or every model) and you can tell by their incorrect directions and lack of screen shots that they themselves haven't followed their own "directions."
