At a yard sale a few days ago I found a blue 4th-gen iPod shuffle for $1. For $1 it was worth the risk of it not working so I bought it. As it turns out it might be dead.

I plug it into my mac and iTunes doesn't recognize it at all. It doesn't even show up in the System Information under USB. Maybe the battery is so dead it needs to charge a bit first? So I left it plugged in for about 10 minutes. No luck. I plugged in into my wall charger for a bit then back to iTunes. Nothing.

It also doesn't look like the light turns on or blinks at all, but its hard to tell when it is plugged in.

I know batteries can act stupid if left uncharged for a long time, but I'm not sure what else to try.

Any suggestions before I give up?

I'd leave it plugged in overnight and try it in the morning.

Thanks for the advice, but it looks like the cable I got with it is for a 2nd gen Shuffle. Which apparently does not work with a 4th gen, despite looking identical. Leave it up to Apple to complicate something as simple as a usb cord

I've ordered a compatible cord, so with any luck that will charge this little guy.
