I sleep my macs always unless I'm going on vacation. Never cause any problems and probably better for the machine then turning it off/on every time one of us at home wants to use it.

Sleeping is fine. There's no need to shut down, except for some Software Updates. Is it 'bad' to never shut an iMac down, but instead sleep it?
