When i shutdown my imac the Funk Alert Sound Plays.

You can find what 'Funk' sounds like if you go to system preferences, Sound, then click the 'Funk' alert sound.

Is this normal when the mac shutsdown, or does this mean there is a problem or error when i shutdown my imac?

Does your Mac play a 'Funk' alert when you shutdown?

Replies appreciated. Many thanks.

Well it is unusual, I have been on the Mac OS since the last 10 years and with each new version Apple has had only the legendary start up chime but never a shut down sound. You may want to pop in your Apple hardware test disk and make sure all is well, this may be an alert that something isn't right.

me too

I have a three month old macbook and i'm having the exact same problem. The alert sound alerts (?) right before shutting down.

I don't know how to check my hardware so i'll have to go to the mac store, because it's been a week now and i'm getting worried.

for future references, changing the alert sound (from the bang to the bottle sound) fixed it for me

I've got the same problem, 'funk' sound everytime I shut down (as though a program is being forced quit or something, who knows).

Erithacus, I'm not sure if I understand; switch Bang with Bottle, huh?

Sosumi

With the Bang i meant to say the "Sosumi" sound. I had this problem but with the "Sosumi" sound, and when i changed it to the "Bottle" sound it went away.

But yesterday i started having the error sound when shutting down again, this time with "Bottle", so now i've changed to "Morse" and it has stopped, yet again. It's all very strange, it doesn't seem to be a real error, just a sound error (?).

This Happens Due to Expose.

I stumbled across this topic as I was a new Macbook owner and scared to death my machine was gonna blow!

After sum playing around with the machine myself it seems you only get the 'funk sound' on shutdown/startup if you have expose enabled. Heard mainly during shut down as expose has no windows to group.

Hope this helps.

I think he means to sat Spaces, because Expose is enabled no matter what.

I've got an "active screen corner," that's part of exposé innit?
I don't have Spaces enabled, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem with assigning a corner in general. It's too useful to turn off, but I don't like to simply ignore a problem either.
Yo seriously, this new OS - regardless of all the hype and all - has some bugs. Problems aren't getting fixed because people are too wired to Mac's throbbing cock vein to admit that the ***** isn't as reliable as it used to be.

I'm pretty sure I know why there's a random sound during shut down/log off. Do you have the Last.fm program installed? Mine opens up automatically whenever I launch itunes, but I usually forget to close it before shutting down. I'm positive the "funk" sound plays when the computer is forced to quit Last.fm, as though there was an error.
