Shutting down an iMac to move it

Hello again,
I am moving tomorrow and my iMac is coming with me. I have a G-Tech external drive for TM. IIRC, I should eject my G-Tech before powering it down and disconnecting it from my iMac, correct? Then just shut down my iMac and very carefully move it to its new home.

I don't think it makes a difference as when you shut-down your mac the drive will be unmounted anyway and then you can power it down.
