my 2017 iMac Pro can't see my 2015 13" iPad Pro :( They're running iPad OS 13.1.2 and macOS 15.0

It just doesn't show up. I'm logged into my Apple ID on both devices and they're in the same wi-fi. it also doesn't show up when I plug it in USB (although then it shows up in finder).

EDIT: Ok, I rebooted both devices. it works now :) Even though according to Apple the computer supports a max. of 2 external 5k displays (3 total), SideCar doesn't seem to count towards that limitation. Pushing 49831936 pixels now :D

Sidecar is borked. I can't connect to my iPad Pro 11 from my 2017 MBP. Can't connect via WiFi, Airplay or direct connection using an Apple USB-C to USB-C cable. Error message is either timed out or miscellaneous 32002. Rebooting both devices doesn't fix it. Both signed into same AppleID. iPad is showing in Finder.

2016 MacBook Pro (says it’s a compatable model) with a 11” iPad Pro. Trying to connect through sidecar in system preferences and also through top bar through AirPlay. Both give the same error 🤔

I also have a 2016 MBP and 11" iPad Pro and am having the exact same issues. I can connect via a USB C cable but wireless times out after several seconds.

Ok, so.. I have finally fixed my issue whilst waiting for Apple to get back to me.
It ended up being as simple as logging out of iCloud on my MBP and logging back in. Turn wifi & bluetooth off and back on again on the iPad Pro and magic, it worked.
Very odd, easy fix, almost felt a bit like a glitch. The MBP was originally logged in to my apple acct and iCloud, but as soon as I logged out and back in, it seemed to fix it up.

For those experiencing issues, give that ^^ a go!
Hopefully it helps a few out.

You can log into your iCloud account on the iPad, or - if you don’t care much about security and privacy - you can peer over the wall and see what else is out there, since there is nothing for Apple to “fix” in this regard.

When did Apple first launch the iPad and you still can configure it for multiple users? How can they keep on promoting it as a laptop replacement when you can even switch between users? Perhaps that's what they need to 'fix' which would get around the Sidecar issue.

Apple like to sell control as 'security and privacy' but just how secure and private do we think everything is given nothing works anymore with data being checked in the cloud. Getting my Macbook and iPad working together inside my secure network shouldn't need to check anything outside it!

I can't connect my iPad pro with my MBP 2016 via usb-c cable (A miscellaneous error occurred (32002).), but they are working well via wifi. Anyone has the same issue?

Same issue with MBP 2016 and 12.9 iPad Pro (2nd Gen). When i try to connect it via original apple usb-c to thunderbolt cable ipad says its "Switching to Usb" but then stuck and on my MBP a screen appears with the same error. Also my internet connection is dropping drastically when i connect the ipad through wifi. Tried logging out/in from icloud and rebooting both devices, didn't work. Anyone having the same issue and have a solution?

macOS Catalina can't see the iPad no matter what I do. And yes, many reboots were performed.

Other macOS Catalina bugs affecting me:

I hook up to two external USB-C monitors. Often, one stops working and I need to reboot to get the Mac to reconnect to it. New in Catalina.

The process of starting up is rocky with external displays. They go black, half-fill-in, change resolutions, etc. For the first time my Mac looks like a Windows machine when it boots!

When I reboot, *every single time*, I have no Dock. I need to launch Terminal and "killall Dock" to get it working again.

It seems I resolved my SideCar issue. Once I connected the iPad to the Mac via a USB-C to Lightning cable, it showed up. After I disconnected the cable, it continued to work, and I was able to disconnect and reconnect without issue.

The first time I connected, it changed the resolution and arrangement of all my displays (with SideCar, that's 4). But once I re-adjusted them, reconnecting SideCar leaves all the resolutions and display arrangements intact. So, in the last 5 minutes, SideCar has been working really well! This is going to be immensely useful when I leave my extra displays behind when I trek to the conference room.

Has worked really well for me, my favorite new feature. Hope Apple gets these issues ironed out for everyone having problems.

That’s just it: Sidecar doesn’t use your secure network. It doesn’t use a network at all. Instead, it uses bluetooth and wifi chips to create a connection that exists outside your network - which allows you to use Sidecar anywhere - like in a park or a coffee shop. It’s really great - you can use Sidecar as a second monitor without the need for wifi (unlike Astropad or Luna). Apple is using Apple ID instead of the network to provide a one-click connection mechanism. Not relying on Apple ID would require some sort of authentication on both devices, which would make the process less seamless. The same method is used for switching AirPods between devices you own (they all have to be on the same Apple ID, but the result is that you can do it with just one click/tap). There are downsides to this system (as with everything), for sure, but considering the alternatives, it’s probably the best option. And it works really amazing, you just point on the green button on the window and choose to move it to your iPad - and woosh - it just appears there. Even the screen turns on.

As for multi-user support on iPads, I agree it’s overdue, but I’m sure Apple is working on it. It’s taking them a lot of time, but I’m guessing there are a lot of things happening behind the screen that makes this quite complicated. Just imagine millions of iPads loosing data or having security leaks just because they didn’t do it right. This may solve your problem, then you could log into the iPad with your Apple ID.

Either way, if you can’t appreciate the flawless execution of features like Sidecar, shared clipboard, Continuity, Handoff, etc. - and I do mean this honestly, we all care about different things - then perhaps you should look into the competition. They too have downsides, so beware.

For me, Sidecar is executed so great, I don’t see a better option for me, currently, because I’m not sold on Windows hybrids. But hey, perhaps you’d enjoy a Surface more, and the latest Pro X really looks nice.
