sideload full version of kodi on atv4 supports addons..

Be advised this is the latest alpha v17 version of kodi so not all addons will work yet, but this will no doubt improve in time. Still with this and the MAME/snes/megadrive emulators that can be side loaded in a similar manner the atv4 is turning into a good platform for modding.....

I came across a thread on Reddit that some users have got SOME add-ons to work
 
Genesis, 1channel and Pheonix all work perfectly, so thats got all your movies and tv catered for.

And thats what 95% of Kodi users want anyway, so goodtimes

The video specifically mentions the AppleTV 4 so you assume that it would work on the AppleTV 3?
Even though the AppleTV 3 does not support apps you assume that side loading apps on the AppleTV 3 would work?
 
Going to give it a try. Anyone found a good Kodi theme yet that works to make it more iOS/AppleTV like?
 
kodi alpha 17 has a very limited selection of compatible skins (not called themes). Stable versions have ATV-like skins available.

Plays MKV files fine. SMB and NFS both work as well. NFS is faster though. Can even use the built-in file manager to transfer userdata to Kodi on the Apple TV 4. I used the file manager to upload my modified Transparency skin XML files to the Apple TV 4.

No way to side load on the Apple TV 3.
