Hi all,

Can anyone else confirm that Sierra is NOT remembering preferences on reboot?

I have trashed all my apple pref files previously and recreated menu bar and dock etc... On reboot however My menubar icons are all over the shop and my dock has question marks for apps I previously removed from there or moved to a new location...

trash finder prefs? reinstall sierra? something odd happening for you. you could also try setting up a test administrator account, see if the problem's global, or just related to your account...

Not trying to be funny... but that's why I came here... trashed all my apple preferences, rebuilt the dock and menu bars and restarted several times... NOT remembering the state log off/Shutdown etc,,,, This is a clean install but for the sake of argument I backed it up and wiped my HD and reinstalled, migrated back my files and still this issue persists!

I set up a test admin account to test the other issue I have with Archive Utility... definitely an OS Bug. If I have a file on the desktop and I want to compress it... it opens a Finder Window every time,,,, even though this is noyt enabled in its preferences...

I assumed that the menu bar locations not being saved was a problem with Bartender, as it's preferences for hiding certain system icons are also sometimes reverting after a restart. Oddly, they aren't reverting to their default state, but rather how I had my preferences set before installing Sierra. Super weird, so I assumed the other menu bar oddities were related to Bartender somehow. I have submitted a couple of bug reports to them, but maybe it is a macOS issue.

As for your dock preferences, that is strange. Nothing unusual happening with my dock and I've been running macOS since Developer Beta 1.

I had I think one or maybe two apps pop out of the pocket with Bartender but thats about all. What I did discover were 3 or 4 entries for dock.plist (the ones with auto generated numbers after) thrashed the lot and also the ServerUI Playlist... and the spaces which had a duplicate, I rebooted and rebuilt the dock and set my options for Spaces... bith seem to be working after one reboot but not menubar... still randomly arranging the icons as it sees fit...

Going to take a Screen of the current state and reboot and post the result!
[doublepost=1474434362][/doublepost]Not as bad as before but still bad... Not remembering the positions of load order obviously!

Yeah, same thing I had been dealing with, basically. Nothing like that happening with my dock though.

For what it's worth, all my Menu Bar locations were preserved after installing the 10.12.1 beta and restarting. Maybe they fixed it in the .1 release.

Dock Sorted out know I'm glad to say... trashing all the dock.plist files and rebooting and then rebuilding did the trick!

May hold off on installing the beta though (Great to hear that this cures the menubar issue). I reckon 10.12.1 is gonna come very quickly this cycle somehow... Lots of problems!

have you tried compressing a file on the desktop using archive utility?... I have had several installs at this stage of the PB, GM and now the Public Release and with all of them a finder window launches every time I try compressing, Only on the desktop though!

Also have a big issue mounting EFI Volume with either Terminal or Configurator. Only was I can is first mounting with Clover which only opens an empty EFI folder and then mounting with Terminal.

Definitely not a fan of Sierra and iTunes has basically gone.... back on Vox here!!!

Absolutely - confirmed here!

I installed Sierra 2 days ago and at first ALL the icons did what they pleased, now all but two have taken their assigned places.

Bartender and Mountain have not - they always end up on the left side after reboot.
I just posted in Apple Discussions about it.
