I guess you should be referring to a defective Samsung display, since mine is nothing like that. I changed my non IR SJA1 rMBP for my current one to avoid potential future IR issues, but would say that other than being a little yellowish originally (already corrected through calibration) it does nit have anything to envy from the LG.

I'd love to see a bunch of rMBPs side-by-side so we can see the differences in everyone's displays. I think they're all over the map, honestly.

Well I've just come back from the Apple store and i must say i am very impressed with the service.

Appointment at 11am, guy agreed straight away there was a problem (In fact he pretty much said before he even tested it that they would replace even if it passed). Failed test, got it booked in, i asked him how long it would be and he went off and came back, told me 2 hours maximum to replace it!

1hr 45mins later i get a call saying its done. I mean for a busy saturday I'm pretty darn impressed.

Anyway, i got home and all seems to be ok. New screen has a slightly tiny yellowish tint although i haven't actually tested it to see what make it is… Not sure i want too!!!

If it is a bit yellow is most likely a Samsung. If so, congrats, just won the screen lottery!!!!

Here was my experience with Apple yesterday.

To I had a appointment at the local Apple store for my Retina MBP and I began to show him my ghosting issues and right away he starts that they all do it regardless. I explain that I have done plenty of research on line were others have had there screens replaced and he began to tell me it was all BS talk on the forums and Apple has not been replacing screens. Now I'm getting HOT and them he tells me ha has one and his does it to, ya ok but its still fine.Anyways he begins the checkerboard test and of course you can still see the goasting after the test is done. So he now agrees there is a problem and will have the scree replaced and then tells me oh maybe I should bring my computer if for a test, what a A HOLE. So ill have my computer back in a few days he says so how will I know what kind of screen I got also ill have them run there little test again before I leave the store.

Could barely understand half of what you wrote but the message came across. Just try another store in such cases.

Just as a further point, have re-calibrated the colour on this display and the yellow tint is gone. Looks almost as perfect as my previous one before the IR so I'm pretty pleased :)

Just followed the guide on the calibration tool until it looked good again! Didn't change the gamma but changed something from about 6500 to 7000 or so, display looks a lot less warm now and much nicer. Guess LG and Samsung have different settings and since the just changed my screen it needed re-calibrating.

Sorry, as this is my first time with this problem and not knowing much about it i didn't realise you couldn't capture the problem with a screenshot.

I don't know how to run the test no. The fact that the IR appears after only a minute means the problem is pretty bad i suppose, but its only today I've noticed it for the first time.

Screenshots basically snapshot what is being fed to the display tagged with the display's ICC profile. You also wouldn't see gpu artifacts in a screenshot.

Hope you get a Samsung!

I don't think getting a Samsung is a sure thing, but lets hope I'm wrong!

Ugh for some reason I thought this was in the imac section as I was reading a couple threads. Even then the problems with LG should have stabilized by now.

6500K is really quite normal. It's close to what is used for sRGB. Part of the problem is that if a profile doesn't provide an accurate description of the hardware, things will display incorrectly. Never touch gamma, especially on something making software corrections. That is just asking for banding issues. Ideally you would just do the first portion of the calibration where it asks you to match things up, then use the native targets unless the results remain unsatisfactory.

If one Apple store won't replace your screen try another. I had to go through 2 different places before finally the 3rd store helped me out and replaced my screen with a Samsung model.

Yes apologies thats what i meant, it was at 6500k but as i have moved from a LG to a Samsung display without changing any other hardware it needed re-doing.

It makes a huge difference. I wish i had a good enough camera to show you. Flicking between the profiles its a stark difference. Standard profile its very yellow by my calibrated one looks much better, almost as good as my LG looked.

I just picked up my Retina MBP and I'm happy to say I have a Samsung display.

Guess I'd be surprised if any newly built system was shipping with an LG display. Has anyone received a new system lately with one of these problematic displays?

Dead Pixel?

Just noticed I have a dead pixel on mine. Called up and said the tech would look at it and replace the display only. Any chance of getting a new machine at all? I have the 2.6/16/512 but they're only selling the 2.7's now. Anyways, an hour wait is nothing to get your display replaced. I just imagine it'd take a couple days to get a new machine, which sucks for me! Going to have to get it done sooner or later though...

Are you within the return period? If so you can return it. No oem is going to replace your entire machine due to a dead pixel. It's simply not a reasonable request.

Just received my system and have the answer. Yea, they're still shipping the LG displays....Sighhh.....

So now I guess I get to await the failure that is sure to follow and deal with the down time getting the display replaced.

You would think with the number of failures and pending legal actions they'd suspend shipping simply to avoid the cost.... guess not.

They are shipping machines with either the Samsung or the LG SJA2 display, so it's a lottery. Some people here have reported ghosting on the SJA2 display, so apparently the issue is not resolved. I sold my non ghosting LG rMBP (2.6/16/768) with the SJA1 display and bought an used Samsung equipped rMBP to avoid future issues.

just noticed ghosting on my June 12 rMBP when I was switching applications. I did the test and believe I have the problem. On to schedule!
