Significance delay in time update when booting up

hello dere.
New to MacRumors, so not sure if I'm posting to the right forum...
but,
I have a MBP 13' mid 2012 with SSD, which when turned on, doesn't update the time until I open time and date preferences.
And just now, I was running Chrome with 5 tabs and iTunes, and chrome just crashed. I think 4GBs of ram can handle that...going to activity monitor, I have 300mb free and 1gb inactive.
Any solutions or what could be the problem?
I resetted the pRAM, didn't help at all with the time issue.

Have you told your Mac to set the date/time automatically? (System preferences).
