I have been wondering this myself. I am looking to buy a macbook pro for school as well as home recording. I want to run logic pro with multiple channels and plugins. Anyone think quad core is worth waiting for?

    Quad core

Think it could be some time in the making....

Have you tried the 2.66 4Gb model....pretty quick

Any updates in the near future will be

    1) slight processor bump
    2) RAM options

    Cant see any changes to

    screen
    superdrive
    HDD
Graphics cards - although if there were any other changes I guess it would most likely be in this department

The reason I was wondering about quad core was because of the rumor that said it may come out in Q3 2009.

The whole quad core was speculation. The article said INTEL was rumored to release new quad core moblie CPUs. That doesn't mean apple has to use them.

Personally if there is an update I think this is reasonable:
    1. Screen res bumped on the 15" 1440x900 to 1680x1050
    2. 15" recieves updated built in battery
    3. CPUs recieve slight bump. 2.4 to 2.66, 2.66 to 2.93 and the BTO 2.93 to 3.06

    4. 9600m gt bumped to GT 130M and the 9400 bumped to it's succesor(can't remember it's name)
    5. 8gb of ram offically supported on the 15"
    6. anti glare display
    That's what I predict.

Do you think that, if Apple upgrades the MBP series, will they upgrade MB in the same way?

For the love of God, I hope they introduce matt screen.

yeah i think if the mbp is updated then the mb will be. They were both updated at the same time. Infact the higher end 15" mbp recieved a slight CPU upgrade early in the year, which means the mb is "due for one sooner."

Intel's price drop hits in a few weeks letting them shift up a notch on processors. There's also the GT 130M to bump up to, bigger hard drives and the possibility of built-in battery or matte screen filtering through.

2.66 GHz to 2.8 GHz is more likely as it's that particular processor being price dropped. Unless Apple gets a special deal, they wouldn't move up to the 2.93 GHz model, especially as it's so close to the 3.06 GHz.

I'm not really sure if apple is concerned about how close they are in numbers. Just look at the iMac. It has both 2.93 and 3.06 as options.

So, hopefully, we'd see increased characteristics on both MB and MBP line. Unless they apply a price reduction (I don't think so), they'll probably increment HD capacity and processor speed.
    I think I'll buy a MB during the summer...

They can do that because that's a different class of processors to the regular mobile lineup. For the regular T series, the 2.8 GHz model will drop to the same price as the current 2.66 GHz and the 3.06 GHz will come in at the same price as the 2.93 GHz. If Apple launches these, then there will be no point to having the 2.93 GHz model, unless as I said, Apple gets a super special offer (which is very unlikely).

Don't forget apple has a very special relationship with intel. They get processors way before any one else and even get ones for the air specially made(well now any company can get them)

I don't think quad-core will come to the MacBook Pro until 2011.

I expect a small CPU bump, new GPUs, 8 GB RAM support in all models, and the new battery. Higher resolutions and HDD bumps maybe.

The mobile i7 is still a few months away, so if we do see any updates, they will probably just be Hard Disk and cpu speed upgrades.

Although I wouldn't rule out a BluRay drive.

    Interesting notes here..

Dixons, a major electronics retailer in UK is doing a big discount (10%ish) for both uMB and uMBP. (INCLUDING VAT)

The new white MB has a normal price.

Blu Ray drive in the new MBPs would be awesome!
    Also maybe an hdmi output.

To be honest the matte screen would be cool but I hate that silver bezel on it.
