Anyone else put in a request to Silence Unknown Messages (just like how it works with phone calls)?

Filtering out Unknown texts does nothing. I still get notifications (pop ups and banners).

With all the a****** marketers and scammers now using text messages it’s starting to become a problem.

Have you tried the "Filter Unknown Senders" option? I have this set and I don't think I am even notified of a text message that is filtered into the "Unknown" category.

Yes, I set the filters unknown senders and I still get notifications :(

In that case, it might be a bug. I would file it so Apple is aware of it. Hopefully this is something they can fix before the Fall.

Thank you

Reported as feature request as it’s not a bug. It’s an oversight.

Same issue here with iOS 14.8.1. I've seen countless articles on how to enable Filter Unknown Messages. Unfortunately, this does not stop notifications from unknown senders; it just puts the messages in a separate message filter group. I cannot believe this simple thing is not possible on iPhone. I've been doing this with Google Voice and on Andriod for years.

Whoah!!!! Is this what it seems to be???

Under notifications- messages- customize notifications- allow from unknown senders toggle

I can’t believe this is here! How long has it been there?

iOS 14, I think, added the silencing part.

Think I'm misremembering: filter unknowns for Messages was 14, while the silence part came with 15 and new Notifications functions (summary, time sensitive, etc). I think ?

Combined with my cell service's call blocker app and "Silence Unknown" for Phone, really cut down on the interruptions from spammers/scammers.

ATT, but their blocker is basically a rebranded version of Hiya.

What? Had no idea. Just turned it off.
Let’s see what happens.

After I toggled the filter unknown messages option, I saw the screen you posted. Thanks for the tip.

I wish, between Apple, Google, and the cell service providers, a more intelligent way of filtering spam texts could be implemented. Simply filtering unknown senders doesn't work for me, because through the course of my business I have to be able to be notified for texts from people who are not in my contacts. Yet every day I have to deal with interruptions from spam, scam, and political texts.
