The silent switch really means silent. One way to configure this would be to use different focus settings in iOS 15. Then you can set ringer settings for different groups or individuals.

Is Apple including alarms now with the mute switch, or is the 'silent' switch an entirely new thing on newer model iPhones (I have the 11 Pro Max) separate from the mute switch?
I ask because this was one of my major issues with Apple. When I use the mute switch I want EVERYTHING silenced, including alarms.

It is indeed the mute switch (I just went with the same name as the OP as I completely forgot its real name). Yeah, alarms are not covered. I personally appreciate that alarms are never muted, but I can definitely see why you might want that. I guess the mute switch was mainly intended for the ringer. It's gone now on newer phones anyhow.

Since the thread was tagged with iPhone SE (2016), which can't run anything newer than iOS 15, I made the assumption that was what you were asking about. But the Focus feature is available in newer versions as well, including iOS 18.

Then you are not using an iPhone SE 2016 for it cannot run anything newer than iOS 15.x
Another poster not using the correct tagging or posting on the correct sub-forum...
You can edit the contacts of your emergency contacts to make them emergency bypass (for ringtone, text tone, or both), while will make them ring even if the silence switch is enabled. Tap the Edit top-right for each contact, tap "ringtone", then turn on Emergency Bypass (and optionally for text tone if you want text messages to sound from them as well.)
Just remember that if you are in a setting where you really want total silence (attending a funeral service, for example), you probably want to turn off your phone or turn on airplane mode so calls and texts cannot make a sound.

Thanks. Yeah, I have had in the past alarms that were set for the late morning or afternoon because I don't always work a standard work schedule. Then you go to a movie or the doctor or whatever and you forget the alarm was set and it goes off.
This is not so much the case for me anymore, but back in 2012 when I was transitioning from an HTC Touch Pro (Windows Mobile 6.1) to iPhone it was very much a concern of mine. The mute switch on the Touch Pro worked as I expected it.
Fortunately, I had jailbreaking to take care of this issue at that time but it's never set well with me that Apple made this choice. Although, likewise, I can understand why other people simply want to mute the ringer and not alarms.

I think OP is confused about what iPhone SE they have because they don't have an iPhone SE (1st-generation) since they are running iOS 18. I'm confused about what iPhone they have.
