Can anyone who has the new 2020 MacBook Air in their possession tell us whether the Silent Clicking option is present in the trackpad settings?
Really curious, as I've enjoyed that feature in my MacBooks.
If you are on a Retina MacBook Air, 2018 or 2020, then if you go to System Preferences -> Trackpad you will see a "Silent Clicking" button near the bottom of the window, below the settings for tracking speed and click strength. Are you referring to “Tap to Click” or some other option?
When I read your subject heading ”Silent clicking on 2020 MBA”, I thought you were referring to some sort of problematic, strange noise — like the speaker popping people have complained about on other Macs. I wondered how one could be bothered by clicking if it was *silent*!
In any case, I’m on Mojave and the only option I found relating to this was under System Preferences, Trackpad, Point & Click, and “Tap to Click”.
At least under Mojave, I’ve not found a way to turn off the sound from a trackpad *press* to click.
Is there one?
It‘s not under Trackpad, nor under Sound, unless I've missed something obvious!
Yes, the 2019 model is for all intents and purposes here the same as the 2018 model. Basically this applies to any MacBook Air with the force touch trackpad instead of a physical trackpad. The reason the setting exists is that since the force touch trackpad doesn't actually physically move or click, there is a piezoelectric speaker inside of it that simulates a clicking sound, it's the same tech that used to be in the touch control iPods. So there is a setting in MacOS to turn that sound off if you want to.Ah, it's something just for Retina MacBook Airs and not linked just to the OS. Does it NOT apply to 2019 MBA model?
I'm using a 2015 MacBook Air. With Mojave, there is nothing below Tracking Speed. Must be a physical, Haptic Touch feature rather than the old mechanical trackpad. But I assume “silent clicking” would be an option for the 2019 MBA, too!
I have the silent clicking option under Trackpad on my 2020 MacBook Air but I can't tell any difference between it turned on or off. I can still hear the clicking of the trackpad and force touch. Does it actually go completely silent, or is there always some noise due to the haptic feedback?
Anyone else notice any differences with it on or off?
Thanks!
