Silicon (universal) app alternatives?

What would be silicon (universal) alternatives for:

1. Adobe Acrobat Reader (preview doesn't always work for all my docs)
2. Microsoft To Do
3. VLC


On a sidenote, I have two apps entitled "NativeMessagingHost." Why two? Can I delete the one somehow?

I wouldn't spend too much time searching for an Acrobat alternative. Adobe has been pushing out AS/Universal apps pretty quickly given how complex their apps are. I'm guessing within a month or two we will see an AS/Universal version of Acrobat. For what it's worth, Acrobat works without issues with Rosetta.

You can download IINA from https://iina.io that's a Universal Binary, IINA 1.20 beta version is a Universal Binary 1.2.0. I have stopped using VLC after installing iina. I also have installed mpv (Apple Silicon) installed via macports that also runs pretty smooth on my Mac mini.

1. PDF Expert (great for day to day not demanding editing too)
2. OneNote or Google Keep / Tasks
3. IINA

IINA runs as Intel on my M1 MacBook air, I can't find a universal or native package.

VLC runs native/Apple, and I slightly prefer a few things in VLC over iina, though that very likely could be because I've been using vlc and am used to it.

You need to update to their latest beta inside IINA app. It's version 1.2.0.

Now IINA is shipped with a universal binary that run natively on both Intel and M1-based Macs.

Do you know why it says that Spotify and VLC are iOS apps in System Information rather than Universal?

I keep hearing this from friends but I stopped using iina in favor of VLC. Iina for some reason refused to open YouTube links when VLC would and iina used the cpu so heavily on my MacBook Pro that it heated up to an absurd degree.

I don’t know if I screwed up something or what but VLC has been the superior player for me.

VLC have better CPU/RAM optimization.
But I think IINA have better HDR Tone Mapping + native macOS PiP + window mode without bars/controls.

You just have to download from the GitHub release instead of their product page. I’m guessing they’ll update their product page soon.

From the release notes:
Now IINA is shipped with a universal binary that run natively on both Intel and M1-based Macs.
Apart from the universal binary, there is nothing changed from v1.1.2. Therefore, if you are using an Intel-based Mac, you may skip this update safely until we have prepared separate builds for different architectures.
