I know, another monitor post. I have a M1 mini and just got a 32" 4k monitor. With display settings set to either 4k or scaled (like 1080p) and opening any browser, the website occupies just the center of the screen with blank space on either side. I have to use zoom in the browser to fill the screen, but the text is now larger than say the macos menu bar. Is this normal? I don't recall seeing this when briefly attached to a Windows machine. I have read here that the Mac and Windows behave differently.

I have attached a screenshot to show the blank space. The reason why I was thrown off is, even is set to scaled/1080p it still does this until I zoom. Monitor is a Dell S3221QS.

Hi! I believe that the Lay-out depends on the website you’re visiting - how does it look like on other sites?

It looks the same on all sites I have tried. My previous monitor was a (same aspect ratio) 1080p monitor on this same machine, all was well.

Perhaps I'm missing something here? But to me, it looks like you are either using full screen mode or have dragged the browser window to fill the screen. Then you are visiting a website that only allows you to use a certain size window, so naturally there are borders on the sides. In other words, it's a design choice on the sites you are visiting, as @flobach suggested.

I am using a 32" QHD screen and see the same thing if I do that. Try going to another site that actually supports edge-to-edge full screen mode such as Google maps. Pretty sure that will go all the way to the edges (or at least, it always has for me, regardless of monitor).
