im thinking about buying an Apple Watch series 2. I have some silly questions. I understood that as long as there is iPhone nearby connected via Bluetooth it doesn't matter if I'm connecting over WiFi in order to receive calls messages mails etc.

But my question is what happened when I return in a place with known WiFi? I red that Apple Watch will switch as needed but is it automatic the switch from Bluetooth to WiFi even if the phone is nearby? I don't want to use the data from my phone when I'm at home even if my iPhone is next to my watch. Is any way to check if it is connected via WiFi or Bluetooth?

Primary connection via Bluetooth but when it loses that connection it will attempt to connect to 2.4 GHz known WiFi.

On the Watch Control Center you will notice an icon of a phone or WiFi icon to let you know which one is connected. WiFi may drain the battery quicker though.

If you want to minimize data, on your iPhone go to Setting>Cellular>WiFi Assist>Off or use WiFi Calling by put the device into airplane mode and connect to WiFi.
