A friend of mine knows I really want an all in one iMac for home video editing of home movies of my son, as well as general productivity.

Here's what he posts on my Facebook wall:
Just FYI -- the new iMacs are slower than my laptop is. If you're really serious about doing video editing, it's going to be painful to do it on an iMac. Spend the extra cash and get the Mac Pro if you want to do video editing! :)
Silly man, I know people who have been using iMovie on '09 C2D without much hassel. But a Mac Pro as a requirement for iMovie? PAH-LEASE.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Any of your Windows fanboy friends giving you guys hate?

Yeah, but I don't really care. Most of the people making those kind of statements have never used a Mac so I don't give their opinion any value.

Yeah, I hate replies like that. Things like "the base model is good for basic web browsing and word processing" when it could easily handle Final Cut, Photoshop, Cinema 4D et al. Operating speed is one thing, rendering times are another.

Your friend IS silly. I have last years 27" C2D and it runs iMovie flawlessly. No reason to stay away from an iMac.

Get yourself one and enjoy it. I know I sure enjoy mine.

Haha. He doesn't know the iMac lineup too well then. It might sacrifice a little on the gpu front, but it delivers on the cpu front. 3.6ghz clarkdales and 2.93ghz lynnfields are usually cpus you only see in high end custom built gaming rigs-- minus the lack of overclocking.

My single 1.67 PowerBook still works great with iMovie, video, audio. Granted, it is slow and very out of date. Will be buying a new iMac this week.

I have never understood why people feel superior about their choice in tech, cars, clothing, etc. People buy what they want, not what they need. All of my friends use PC's. I just tell them to go the hell away. It's my machine not theirs.

Yawn. I really don't care what other people think about the computer I use. I have to Win 7 computers and they work flawlessly because I use them correctly. I stay away from most third-party software and have most of Google blocked in my root folder to keep it from sneaking onto my system (the bulk of the problems I ever had on my computers had the name Google attached to it). So I have few problems. (Other than my 4y/o notebook. But most processors burn out after a while)

And if I get a Mac system, the same will be true for it as well.

Ive used a Mac by itself for 2 years straight now. I got fed up with the lack of options Apple gives you and these new iMacs make me feel vindicated for the PC I built a week ago. To each their own.
