Am I the only one that finds it ridiculous that the Apple Watch S2 with the silver aluminum case only comes with the white sports band?

I would like to get it with the black sports band (as I feel the black sports band goes better with the silver aluminum vs. the space gray). But, in order to get that combination, I would need to order the watch with the white band and drop another $50 to get the black sports band?

Thanks in advance for any comments, suggestions...etc.

It is just the way it is. The sport bands are not so expensive, just buy the one you want.

Thanks for your reply. I understand that's the way it is, but I feel that for $400 we should be able to chose what band we want. Shouldn't that be an option? Can Apple just send the watch face separately?

I really don't understand why Apple can't do this as they probably lost my sale based on this.

Buying is your choice. Just look at how many new combinations there would be if every watch could be ordered with any band. Thousands. Apple does not sell just the face but many consider the watch of their choice with any sport band that they can toss and buy what ever band they want. I purchased the Black Stainless and will toss the black sport band to use my leather loops.

But why toss it? It costs $50? It seems like it would be simple for Apple to provide the watch with your choice of band or at least make more than just one option available. Why not have the silver aluminum available with the black band and the white band.

In your case, you would toss the black sports band, in mine, I would toss the white. I see it as a "kill two birds with one stone" situation? Save the customer the cost and save the environment the waste of producing a strap that won't be used or needs to find a home.

Ideally Apple would sell the watch without the band. And yeah, it seems odd they wouldn't offer silver w/ black but good luck getting anyone here to admit that and even if they did it wouldn't matter. Probably not what you want to hear but your other option is to buy a $7 knockoff black band (there are some decent ones out there) to go with your new silver watch. Or maybe post in the marketplace (if you have enough posts) and see if you can get someone to trade their black for your white.

Is the reason they don't offer more than one band option to get consumers to fork over another $50? I suppose that adds up quite quickly and counts towards smartwatch sales numbers? I'm not buying an Apple Watch for that very reason. I don't like being toyed around with as a consumer.

I think during the first launch there were more options and it was a bit of a mess but I also think limited supply has been a big factor.

Same with stainless steel version, only comes with white band. Luckily I have other bands, but it still bothered me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Apple products and their design, however recently I've been put off by them some. I also don't buy into the limited supply story. There very well may be limited supply, but again, I think Apple is toying with the consumer to increase hype and demand for a product.

Wouldn't there be marketing experts at Apple that can calculate fairly accurately what initial demand might be? Why, amazingly, on launch day are shipping estimates 3-5 weeks?

It is easier to ship out a product before you manufacturer them all then to wait. It is also generally good business sense.

When I bought the first Apple Watch, the Apple Store was happy to swap out the white band for a black one. Pretty easy.

Still, they can crunch some marketing numbers and produce that amount and have them ready to go on launch day or ship day or whatever.

Would they still do that? I called Apple support and was told that they would not do that. Perhaps each store has their own policy?

We can discuss this until the cow comes home, but that's the way it is. You're also extremely late to the party.

I suppose we could discuss this until any cows do decide to go home. I didn't realize I was late to the party either. Just started researching the Apple Watch Series 2 as I was waiting for a year and half for it to be released.

Didn't Apple stop selling the silver-with-black combo (in both stainless and aluminum) at the first refresh in April of this year? Or was it even sooner than that?

I think the white band looks best with the SG because on the contrast! Silver also looks good with the white, its just more subtle if thats what you like.

They didn't offer the black Sport band with the silver aluminum model at debut, causing many AWS owners to bitch that it was available only with the SS or Space Gray aluminum.

Ah, yeah -- that's half of why I bought the SS-on-black combo last August.

you could swap with someone that wants your colour. or just buy a $10 version from amazon which are decent alternatives and don't reward apple for not being flexible on choice.

i wish they'd sell without bands as an option, as plenty of people will already have a few at home

They could do that, then they wouldn't have launched it until November and then if they had to account for multiple band combinations, they wouldn't have launched it until early next year.

There have been reports of people who were IN STORE and said they only wanted it with xyz band, and the apple store swapped them out onsite.. YMMV

You're referring to https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-to-offer-band-only-exchanges-for-apple-watch.1871075/

However, it must meet several criteria, the most important one being that the band you swap to must be available as an out of the box option (i.e., a current model) within a collection and for your specific watch face/case. Apple doesn't sell black sport band with the silver aluminum case as a model and hence it can't be done.

yeah actually thats not what I was referring to.. there are reports around the internet (and here somewhere) of people buying in store and doing an immediate swap out of the bands - mostly of the sport models.

again YMMV.
