I have a bunch of reward points at work that I need to use up (the program is ending, so it's use them or lose them). I have an iPhone 5s that I'm pretty happy with & thought about upgrading to the SE, but figured I'd give a larger screened phone another try. (I had an iPhone 6 for about 10 days when they first came out, then I returned it to buy the 5s.) I've always had black screened phones & played around with some white ones, but I just have a hard time getting over seeing that black band around the screen.

Either phone (iPhone 6s or 7) would be 'free' to me, as I have enough points to cover the cost (both are the 128 gig versions), so that's not an issue, but the rewards program only has the 7 in Silver, while it offers the 6s in Space Gray. I'm trying to weigh the pros & cons of the two phones, removing cost as a variable, but including my preference for the Black screen, as well as the usual variables (lack of headphone jack, faster processor, etc). I'm leaning towards the 6s at this point, but I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on either one.

I guess my question is: if it was you & price was not a factor, would you buy the newer phone in a color you don't prefer, or the slightly older phone in your preferred color.

Honestly, for me I cannot deal with white bezel. I have a 6s and a 7+. I still find that my 6s is not slow by any means. It runs the newest beta with the same speedy consistency as the 7+ does.

I'd go for the color you prefer. You will be looking at it every day. Even with colored tempered glass, you can't hide the white touch ID button.

Ultimately it's up to you but for me, the regular 7 was not a big enough upgrade.

Lol.
Once you figure this one out... someone offered me $50 or $100; I don't know which one to take.

Edit:
For serious, why would you possibly remove cost as a factor?? Choosing the most important and personal intimate computing & communication device you'll use for a good while by the color..? Are we in the 3rd grade? This is a phone that (judging by your 5S), you'll keep for at least 3 years... I'm certain your company gives it to you sealed in the retail box, yeah? It would be trivial to go trade it out at a retail location for your preferred color. Or, for that matter- for a 6S in the color of your choice, then you'd have $100 left over to buy accessories.
There's literally not a single reason I can think of, nor set of circumstances in which given two options- I'd choose the one that behooves me the least.
You got me scratching my head here by even posing this question! The choice is obvious. Go look at your poll results. 100% vs. 0%; that should tell you something.

How much of a role do the other variables you mentioned play? Where do those point you to?

If you really want Space Grey go with the 6s. That's what I'm using and I'm perfectly happy with it until the iPhone 8 in September. Sure the 7 has a couple nice features but this phone still works just fine. Then the 8 will feel like a huge upgrade.

iPhone 7. You can get over the color eventually.

Why not get the Silver 7, sell it, and then buy the same model in Space Grey?

if i have to choose i will definitely go for the latest

Why is it then you always suggest the 6s in many other threads as you state "The iPhone 7 is not worth the upgrade?" What's the difference between then and now?

Well the 7 is much better in Camera, Speakers, Display, and technology department
The color doesn't really matter, and both colors are really pretty

I have a Space Gray 6s I use as my main phone, and a Silver 6 Plus, and I love both [colors]
And I have a Jet Black 7 I use as an iPod, and I sort of miss Space Gray (although Jet is very beautiful)

Agree here. I still have my 6s and still run just as smoothly as it did when it was on iOS 9. I had the 7 briefly and there wasn't any compelling feature that made me want to keep it. I'm also a space gray fan as well.

It's ultimately your call, but I'd go with the 6s.

Not sure why the insults, but whatever. I removed cost as a factor because neither phone will cost me any money. I'm getting them with reward points, so cost is somewhat of a moot point. If I get the 6s, then I'll have extra points to spend on something else, but it's not costing me any money out of pocket, so I'm not focusing on that aspect of the transaction.

The second sentence of your edited reply is exactly what I was getting at. I don't care about the color of the back of the phone, but it is an intimate device and I don't care much for the white face plates on the silver phones. It is something that I'm going to be staring at for the next few years, so that's why I was adding that in as a variable.

This is a phone that (judging by your 5S), you'll keep for at least 3 years... I'm certain your company gives it to you sealed in the retail box, yeah? I'm not sure how I would go about trading the phone that I got from work at another retail location. I would assume that any store would require a receipt for a transaction that large. If you have any ideas on how to do that, I'd appreciate it.

You got me scratching my head here by even posing this question! The choice is obvious. Go look at your poll results. 100% vs. 0%; that should tell you something.

thanks for the feedback. it does seem like most people agree with you, that I'd be better off with the 7, which is kind of the reason I posted this. I was leaning towards the 6s, but wanted feedback from others to see if I was overthinking/ overvaluing the color issue. Judging by the responses, it would seem that might be the case.

It would have to be the correct carrier (unless brought back to an Apple store), but swapping out a sealed product for the exact same product in a different color does not require a receipt anywhere that I'm aware of.
Walmart would be a safe one, since they carry all carriers & have easy returns. That would be my 2nd choice- if an Apple store isn't close.
You don't have to be sneaky or lie or anything- at either place you can say: "this was a gift" or "I won this at work" or however you want to phrase it... "I don't have a receipt, but just want to swap for a different color".
You should have ZERO problems.

The difference here OP is upgrading from a 5S (not 6S Plus)and if he was upgrading from 6S Plus then i will definitely say no

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Having an iPhone 7 in black would be my ideal outcome.

My wife has the 7 in black and the color is flaking off. I don't recommend the black. We also have a 7 and 7 plus in silver in our household (all three phones in cases) and the silvers look like they are still new out of the box. The seven, nice, but with silver spots... strange. There are some other folks reporting the same issue with black.

I understand what the OP is upgrading from. My point is and was you (In multiple threads) have not recommended the iPhone 7 over the 6s being you stated the "Latest is not worth the extra money over the 6s." Even though you own the iPhone 7.

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered a 7 in silver and will take it up to the Apple store to see if they will exchange it. If not, I'll check out one of those black colored screen protectors, which I didn't even know existed until I saw the posts about them on here.
