I have had five space grey machines and never scratched one enough to show the base colour. I think they are pretty scratch resistant, or the top layer quite thick.

Just had this same decision when moving back to Mac after trying my hand at using the iPad Pro as my only personal computing device for the past year or so.

Ultimately, I went with Space Gray, but really hoping they offer a darker slate-like color down the road. Seems unlikely to happen soon after the MBP stuck with the same Space Gray.

I've been using the Silver for the past week, but seriously thinking about returning for the Space Gray. The silver aluminum showing around the screen just seems to pop out more, probably due to the smaller bezels, and I think the SG will be less noticeable. Hmm....

I have a Space Gray MacBook Air. My previous 16" was a Space Gray. The 15" before that was a Space Gray.
My girlfriend went for Gold, and I swear it is the most beautiful MacBook I have ever seen in my entire life.

You cannot go wrong with either. But space grey looks better. As long as it is not the gold one, you will be fine.

I got space grey to match my iPad Air 3. I wouldn't have minded silver for the nostalgia, my first Mac was a 2011 Air which where only silver.

Ordered space grey. Will buy a cover case so color is not that important for me. I already have silver macbook pro so change of color is welcome.

Picked up a new Space Gray MacBook Air yesterday at Apple Store, I may have gone with Silver if they had both in stock, but for what I purchased (16GB/1TB) it was looking like it was difficult enough to find a Space Gray and I'm happy with it.

I think it looks sharp, don't anticipate problems with scratching or anything like that. It won't be taken out of the house (probably ever) and in fact it won't really be used nearly as much as many are for those who use these as their primary computers.

I do agree that the color choice is more significant for a laptop, much more than a phone which for most people spends its life in a cover or case of some type. I've had various color phones and don't even think about or notice the color since it's only slightly visible on the back around the camera lenses.
