Hi,

I just got my new 16" (i9/ 5500M 8GB/ 16GB / 1TB) a few days ago.
But unfortunately I had to notice pretty loud coil whine and some scratches near the USB C port.
Therefore I'm thinking about returning it and getting a new one.

As I am extremely sensitive to scratches, I am thinking about getting the silver model instead of the grey one.

Does anyone have any experience if this is really less prone to scratches?

I hate those scratch marks, especially near the ports.

Thanks!

Silver will still scratch - the difference here is that they will be harder to see and harder to notice.

It's a machine and a tool. As soon as you start using it, it will begin to wear, scratch, etc. It's a part of life. Just enjoy it.

I saw a well used Space Gray laptop the other day that had been beaten to hell and probably used as a target in a gun range. It looked oddly beautiful in that worn look. Kind of looking forward to making my own look like that now.

If you use it, you will scratch it. If you're really OCD about it I suggest putting on a skin or a case. I did that with my 2014 MBP 15 and it preserved it beautifully. Didn't do anything for the keyboard lettering, which I had worn completely off about nine of the keys.

I've been using Macbooks since before they were MacBooks. All of them looked great once you've wiped the daily grime off them.

My space grey 16" was less than 2 weeks old when I picked it up and put my iPad - in its leather case - on it and now there's a scratch on the lid. This really annoys me especially when I'm in a meeting and the lid's closed on the table -- you could call it OCD, I just hate that my £5k laptop's damaged.

Whether Apple are skimping on the anodising to gouge even more money out of us suckers, or whether it's something about space grey showing scratches more, I don't know.

I'm so pissed off about this I've ordered a dBrand skin to cover up the scratch and prevent others. As I've no chance of *feeling* the new skin, I've ordered it on spec and hope it doesn't feel like some crappy corporate windos laptop. We'll see when it arrives.

Knowing how I feel know, I think that probably the silver colour would be more scratch resistant. Unless, that is, that Apple are a bunch of cheapskates on their materials.

My space grey 16" MBP has a scratch mark just where my Apple Watch touches the body when typing. So yeah, space grey will scratch.
