I just purchased it on the App Store. Copied all my files over from my Bootcamp drive including all the plugins and regions and they are running flawlessly on the Mac version. Feels good to finally be able to boot up sim city without having to restart and switch to windows. One less reason to use Windows now. Good job Aspyr.

I'm having problems, please help

I don't understand. It seems everyone is playing this game well on to 50K or more sims population but I only get to around 6000 strong sims and the game crashes unexpectedly.

I downloaded it from the Mac App Store yesterday.

I'n running a Macbook Air 2012 mid with 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 and 4GM RAM and Intel HD Graphics 4000 and running Mavericks OS X 10.9.4

The games starts well into region, I select the one city that I have created and saved since last at around 5700 population and when it reaches around 6000 it crashes again and again and again. I can't do anything else. What should I do? Please help Aspyr-Blair! You are my only salvation

Unfortunately, the MBA's arent supported because of the CPU (and SC4D is VERY CPU intensive). That said...you should still be able to play without crazy issues like that, it will just chug. I'll dig around with the team leads and see if I can find anything out...

Edit: Office consensus is you shouldnt be crashing. You should be chugging on larger cities, but not 6k pop. Click on the support link on my sig...I'll let them know you are coming. We will likely want your save file so that we can run it on a comparable setup.

Okay I've sent you a PM. I've already written to Aspyr support. How can I upload the save game?

They will get you going on both the save file and your system info, no worries! :apple:

Please let us know if you have modified or messed with the file structure in any way, or if you are trying to utilize any mods.

Not at all. A simple game playing straight from Mac App Store download in full screen: see screenshot of the game settings.

Thanks for the screengrab. I assume shifting the settings lower has the same result?

Send all your stuff through Support. No need to air out your dirty save laundry here :D

Yes it does, tried shifting those setting with out effect.

Yes Sir, will do. Thanks for the help.

PS: I get this that the 27 iMac top model has no problem at all playing this. I mean if I had to chose a Mac just for this game what would it be configured? I just really love this game!

Oh by the way someone mentioned on how to use Keka and to download the NAM and install it to the plugins folder. Anyone have a walkthrough on how to do this?

And also is WINE really that easy to install. Do you need a copy of windows? I'm more thinking of getting Simcity 4 from Steam - the windows version and trying that.

game crashing

Too bad, but it's understandable. It's $5 on Steam all the time, I'll get it then.

Mods go here: ~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.simcity4.appstore/Data/Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins

To install NAM you have to use a tool like http://www.kekaosx.com/en/ to unpack the .exe

I've done this and the game is crashing once i open a city. Anything special I need to do to make it work?

I managed to fix the problem with Aspyr's help. So that was good. Any who, is there a difference with the Steam release of Sim City 4 for Mac? I've bought the Mac App Store

Looking at this now, few questions:

- Will it play OK on my Late 2013 rMBP 13" with Iris GPU?
- Steam version still the same as App store? (It's £9.99 on Steam and £13.99 on App store)

Thx!

- You'll be just fine on that machine. It will chug a little on BIG cities, but thats no different on the PC
- Both versions are identical. The price difference is due to a difference in how those 2 retailers deal with their pricing matrix. Sometimes Steam is cheaper, sometimes MAS, and it changes all the time.

Tried out Simcity Buildit on my iPhone over the last couple days. A real POS designed to make you spend real money with almost no resemblance to a simulation game, but it did make me yearn to play Simcity again.
So I found SC4 on MAS for $10 yesterday. Did some research and convinced myself that SC4 would run OK on my 2014 MBAir. Then spent a little more time deciding whether I should try the new SC or just get SC4.
Decided on SC4.
Went to go buy, and it's up at $20!!! Aargh.....
Still $10 on Steam, but I don't really game and have no intention of installing or using Steam.

Mostly venting here, but do you know how often the sales occur? Or does MAS control that and not Aspyr? There was no indication on MAS store that it WAS on sale at $10, or that time was limited.

Both Aspyr and Feral have been doing random (unannounced) Holiday season "sales" on the MAS games. One day, it's half off Bioshock games, the next day it's half off racing games, the next day it's a big discount on simulation games, etc etc. There's really no predictable pattern. You just have to check the Mac App Store regularly for sudden price drops, which they do a lot during the holiday season.

I'm still waiting on Aspyr to provide a nice discounted price on their Call of Duty MAS games. Been wanting to get CoD Black Ops for some time now. But it's going to be very expensive with expansions. So only a nice flash sale would convince me to do so. I'm not a big fan of multiplayer online, so MAS (which limits the multiplayer ability of some games) is perfectly suitable for me.

We control the sale periods, and it will likely be some time before I put it back on sale. I agree, if the App Store had strike through pricing, sales would be much easier to find

Just received an email stating that the game is now $4.99 on Steam (until January 9). Even though you dislike Steam, it may be worth buying, especially considering that, at least as far as I can tell, there are more frequent sales on Steam than the Mac App Store; it's currently $19.99 on the MAS. Also with Steam you get unlimited downloads for all computers - Windows and Mac - signed in with your Steam info (as opposed to five, with the MAS), and most Steam games seem to have achievements now, which are an added bonus - though I'm not sure SimCity 4 does.
