Simple audio ? on Mac Mini

Does the digital audio output on the Mac Mini plug into the PC Audio In on an LCD TV? Does this transmit stereo through 1 plug? Is this the best choice for getting sound out of the Mini into the TV?

Yeah you can feed the S/PDIF digital audio from the mini to your TV or receiver if it has a digital input.

I guess, my underlying question is whether the input typically labeled by TV manufacturers as PC Audio Input is digital, and whether this is stereo. I am looking at buying an LG37" LCD TV which does not have a Toslink input, but I want the best audio connection possible from the Mac Mini. I will not have an AV received in that room.
