Simple audio recorder for OS X?

Uhm guys, let's assume I'd like to record some simple sound files. Under Windows, back in 2000, I'd take Sndrec32. But what do I take under OS X?

I couldn't find a suitable on board utility so which 3rd party app would you recommend?

I'd use Audacity since its free. If you want something simpler check the App store.

Also, I use Evernote to record short audio notes. Depending on how simple you need, this might work too.
