I used to be a programmer. C, C++, JAVA, Pascal, BASIC and FORTRAN

However, for the past 15 years I have been a manager.

For non work related activities I want to develop some very simple data processing programs in my free time. No GUI or graphics.

Just read data from a flat file. Process it and write a file. Maybe display data on a screen.

I am not interested spending a lot of time just getting started.

Any ideas??

Is there a simple BASIC enviroment that meets my needs?

Thanks

Perl

I suggest the language Perl. It is very good at reading text files and processing them. And there are large libraries of support code. Sadly a bit out of fashion but it will be around a long time.
