Looking for a Word program (other than iWorks or the included Text Editor), pay or free for the Mac that anyone has come across. I don't need Excel or PowerPoint, but a fair program that does not cost all that much and is worthy to keep.
Long, multi-sectioned documents with changing headers and footers?
Styles?
Tables of Contents?
Indexes?
Tables?
Complex arrangements of text and graphics?
Multi-columns?
Mail Merging?
Cross-references?
Tables of Figures?
Bibliographies?
Cross-platform compatibility?
If you require several of the above there are only two choices: Word or Pages. In that order.
TextEdit does all that. Not sure why you're negative about iWork. iWork is a great set of programs...better than Microsoft office. Check out NeoOffice...it was free a few years ago.

Thinking for the time I actually use it, and for the limited needs, iWorks would be my last resort. I had/have Microsofts Office 2007 and much more than I would ever use. Just the basics fa8362.

Still learning...Observed Pages on the Apple store selling for $19.99 and if this was a stand alone program, (now I know it is) its a good choice to consider if needed. Thanks for pointing that one out Vermifuge. 😉
